What I would like to start this tread for and hear about is the good stuff. I would like to hear from people who live there and what they love about it.

MOD CUT For sometime we have wanted to move someplace private and nature connected... Our sanctuary in the hills. We are very private, so we arent looking for art, culture or nightlife. We are health conscious... So the stats that Redding has wonderful air quality is refreshing. Also the lack of traffic. I have read there is a Whole Foods and Trader Joes (we are plant based Vegans) so I know we can eat . I also notice there are at least a couple of yoga studios and gyms.

But, as stated, I would like to hear the good points of living in Redding, what keeps people there and makes them happy about being there.

I would also love to hear from any gardeners... What plants grow best? How do fruit trees fare? What veges grow the best?

Is an organic life in Redding possible. With money and guaranteed employment, could it be a nice place for those who want to live in the hills?

Thanks
I would look closer to the Bay area, maybe Santa Cruz.

Ohhh, I know, right. We actually did look in the Los Gatos Mountains. I lived in Los Gatos for 12 years. But the job offer my husband has is in Redding. So we're looking at Redding.

It is okay, I can survive with my hippie self in Redding.

The GOOD points of Redding:

Spring flowers along the River Trail (walk, jog, bike, rollerskate, it's all fun)
Twilight hours at WaterWorks Park
Redding Aquatic Center and Caldwell Park (loved watching the trains cross the trestle there)
Kids Kingdom and Fantasy Fountain
MarketFest downtown in the summer
Pancake Breakfast during Rodeo Week
Lighted Christmas Parade first Saturday in December
Fall colors at Shasta College
Shasta College Farm
Big League Dreams
No waiting for tables at most restaurants
No real rush hour traffic
No crowds

(I lived in Redding from 1994 to 2006, mom of two then-young children so you may see a heavy emphasis on parks in my list. Some things may have changed since I moved away. Miss being able to be outdoors so much!)

prosin, Since it's been 6 years since you've lived here, I can tell that there have been changes. Particularly since unemployment has sky-rocketed here.

There are growing problems with traffic congestion particularly during noon and 5 pm, the normal rush hours, not only in the larger intersections of town.

The Fantasy Fountain is being demolished as we speak. There are plans to replace it, but so far, the funding isn't there.

The River Trail is lovely during the spring, except for the growing number of transients and loose dogs running around, particularly for bike riders as a lot of folks ignore the leash laws.

The Pancake Breakfasts, Marketfests and Christmas Parades are a lot of fun except when you find that while you are away from your car, the local meth heads have broken into it stealing your stereos and any other belongings you have left there.

Redding CAN be a good place to live if you are diligent and pay attention to your surroundings.

Then back to the original question, what IS good about living there? What do you still LIKE about living there?
