Windfall? Or kinda par for California's course?
Why does this happen in California and not in all those other states that are supposedly more business friendly ... You know: all those wonderful places where all California's businesses are running away to ...

But nah, just a stroke of pure luck, right? Won't ever happen again ... California won't ever recover. Just going down the toilet.
Because California has two things that many places don't: Location and educated people.

Location will never change(within humanity's existence at least).
The number of educated people will as our college system continues to crumble, but what it looks like is that foreign countries will continue to pick up the slack as they send more H1B workers here year after year, unless there is some type of immigration reform.

Well, yeah ... Exactly. My questions were rhetorical, of course. I assume the sarcasm of my post was obvious, as well. The "California is doomed" theme that runs here on this forum so often just cracks me up. How / why do people think California became the most populous state? The state with the nation's highest GDP? Why are there so many of the most highly regarded universities here? Why do so many artists, intellectuals, scientists, and business innovators move and stay here? Why are the real estate prices so high in so much of the coastal areas? Etc.

I wonder if the anticipated tax revenue windfall is going to effect the proposed tax props being bandied about?

Interesting perspective. You equate the greatness of our nation with financial "success" -- where you define "success" as making lots of money.

I equate the greatness of our nation with those who boldly and sacrificially explored and settled the land, declared it a place of freedom from oppression and have fought in every manner to make it and keep it so.

Curiously, the establishment and development of our nation has always been a progressive function that has allowed success with financial wealth -- which seems to be the only aspect of America that conservatives value.

Personally? I am indifferent to financial wealth. It is meaningless compared to pretty much anything else we might experience in our short, transitory lives.

As for Zuckerberg? He's just a kid with a lot of money -- so far. Remains to be seen what kind of person he becomes with seasoning. Who a person is ought not to be confused with their money -- or lack thereof.

My personal vote is that it is used to keep old folks alive and healthy to enjoy their remaining years, first ... and keep the State Parks open, second.

This is a good thing however FB and other "Dot Bomb 2.0" firms produce very few middle income jobs and make no hard goods. These types of enterprises do not fully replace the hard good manufacturers who've left in droves over the past 20 years.

Yep funny perspective indeed...

A nation that has been a great success because it is a nation built on equality... Just how do you think we got the middle class to begin with.?.. ...

Government intervention... Breaking monopolies, establishing labor laws and standards and taxes to moderate, nurture and regulate and direct growth...With your mindset, our nation would have ended up with a dictatorship or a monarchy at best... Wealth would have been concentrated early on.. We would be like so many other 3rd world countries without a democracy.. A rich dictatorship and the poor masses....

Can you not see that???

Hello a democracy is for the PEOPLE by the people.... We the people decide how ARE resources are used, how are airwaves are used... It is ours collectively... It is a blessing, a privilege, hence the reason why the common man would so willingly risk life and limb to protect it, yep patriotism!...You seem to want to give up... I can not understand the mindset...

I find it hilarious that most of the "god bless America" flag flying, superficial patriotic types are actually the ones who support breaking down the democracy, the ones I find to be the least patriotic via their actions..

ONLY nations with a Socialistic Democracy have succeeded in bootstrapping up the standards of the working class... If the masses have money they spend money.... hence firing the economic engine, that has brought us all a better standard of living...Geez, even Communist China can see this and is reforming their system...

Free market economy does not mean a unregulated free for all.....

Remember the last "windfall"? That's when Google had it's IPO in 2004 and tons of money flowed into Sacramento only to be frittered away leaving the state just as broke as it's always been.
