Default California Coastline photos

Absolutely incredible photo database. The way I remember, some guy got a helicopter and flew up the entire California coast and continuously snapped photos with something like a six mega pixel camera.

California Coastal Records Project

This is truly amazing.

California Coastal Records Project -- Aerial Photographs of the California Coastline

Below is an example at Santa Monica Pier. If the photo doesn't show due to CD photo size rules then just go to this URL: http://www.large.images.californiacoastline.org/images/2002/large/4/4114.JPG (broken link)

There are also awesome color photos from the 1970s and 1980s too:

How about this one of Malibu Pier 1972:

It's URL is California Coastal Records Project - Image 7235027 - "Malibu Pier" if it gets zapped on CD for size problems.

Yes, that site is a lot of fun, and an incredible idea! I like the time comparisons, back as far as 1969? At one point I remember seeing a blurb on there about lawsuits filed against the Project by high-profile personalities, like Barbara Streisand, who don't want areal pictures of their Point Dume properties published on the web. The courts evidently sided with the Records Project, allowing them to publish the photos.

I love that site. When we lived oceanfront we went on that site to find our home. It was fun.

My ex-beach home is in this shot.

I don't know if it is the internet here on the AFB I work on but I don't see photos in my original post. No big deal. The idea is just to get people to check out this site. Maybe they were too big for CD postings.

Is that the Whale's Tail Restaurant? I think we used to go there after work when I worked at Mugu about 15 years ago.

Whales Tail Restaurant was just down the street from us. It's not in this picture though. It would of been if the photo was a little wider.

The CCRP has a very specific use license for their images. Linking to them outside of CCRP's web content doesn't work unless you do it exactly the way they want:

California Coastal Records Project Copyright License

There is one pic of the Whale's Tail area. The picture caught my truck in the parking lot of CIYC/CIM, where I used to live on a boat.

Now that I am at home now, I see both photos in the body of the post I made this morning. Must be something about Schriever AFB filtering???

Who knows. I tried to post some CCRP images on a Crescent City thread and they displayed with the consistency of a passing cloud -- sometimes yes, sometimes no.
