Lot's of people don't like the beach. There are tons of folks in CA that never go to the beach even though it's a hour away or less. I'm one . I know others in SoCal.

Nope, you are wrong about that.

On top of that, you have a "fee" for this and a "fee" for that and, by the time you're done with all of the "fees" you might as well just have paid an income tax.......And, again, I ask for what?

Smoke-filled casinos?

Fattening buffets?

Malls with items that you can't afford on a living wage or fixed income?

Overpriced entertainment?

I can have all of that in L.A./OC/I.E. and still have micro-climates and a beach within an hour's drive.

Most Las Vegas neighborhoods that used to have a reputation as being "haughty taughty" (Summerlin, Seven Hills, Anthem) are located adjacent to apartment-filled, crime-ridden ghettos and lots of newer tracts where there is now abundant Section 8 housing.

I have a cousin that lives in Henderson and she says that Section 8 housing has really started to overtake the area there and there are lots of shady characters popping up all over town now. She's stuck there because her husband is in law enforcement and works for Metro.

I love visiting Vegas a few times a year. But to live there? No way!

You should know that the locals who live in Vegas don't go to the strip, thats for tourists. And you have to be joking. You can get THREE nice big houses in Summerlin for the price of one here in most of OC or LA. Irvine is located adjacent to an apartment-filled, crime ridden ghetto named Santa Ana, so whats your point? I can easily see why people would choose to move to Summerlin or somewhere like Scottsdale, AZ and buying a huge house all while saving massive amounts of money over living in OC or LA.

Santa Ana has nothing on that ghetto known as "North Las Vegas" that is now spilling over into Aliente, the Northwest and Summerlin now...

By contrast, Santa Ana is beginning to gentrify.

Oh please. Both Santa Ana and NLV have a high number of gang members and violent crime but Summerlin nor Irvine are in any danger of becoming ghettos anytime soon

They're moving to Washington State, too.

I'm from near Seattle and just about everyone in my mom's neighborhood is from California. Also, no income tax in Washington.

Absolutely! Thus, we wonder why anyone who hates living in the area near Santa Ana and constantly complains about it would not choose to MOVE ALREADY!!!

Untrue. You're misinformed

What fees are you referring to? In any event, everyone agrees a fee is a better method of paying for a public service than an income tax.

Modern casinos have extraordinarily effective air handling systems to remove smoke. At any rate, casinos are just one form of entertainment; if you don't like them, don't go to them.

Buffets are not fattening. People with no self-control who over-eat are the problem. Note this happens at your local Del Taco just as much as it happens at a buffet. Personally, I don't go to buffets as I prefer fine dining with an extensive wine list.

So make more money if you are jealous of people who have more than you. Or, just live on what you make and don't begrudge those who provide a higher value to society & hence earn more money.

I think you mean World-Class entertainment. In any event, if you cannot afford it, don't go.

An hour's drive at 15 mph average is only 15 miles. Good luck with that.

Sorry you can't afford to live in nice places. Maybe you should just make more money.

Goody for you. Do you realize there is a difference between an anecdote and actual, you know, data???

I've lived in LA, the I.E., Chicago, Palo Alto, Silicon Valley, and now Las Vegas.

Las Vegas has world-class entertainment, more Celebrity Chef Restaurants per-capita than any place else on the planet, great outdoors activities, an active retiree population -- heck, you can go snow skiing and water skiing on the same day if you want.

It is a fantastic place to live. And the best thing: it is not in California.

I like the IE but if I didn't like the beach I'd rather live in AZ. Better hunting for one.
