Interesting article from a local paper in 1923. Some things never change. Y'all been blowing your own horns for 90 years.

Missouri seeks to decrease emigration
Feb. 15, 1923

Everybody knows that Missouri is worth ten Californias when it comes to natural resources and possibilities for development along scores of lines, yet the former state has been losing population to the latter for many years, solely because Missourians have not boosted their state while Californians, on and all, never cease praising theirs. Even in the matters of climate, take it through all seasons one year with another, the commonwealth by the “sundown seas” has nothing on the state the “Big Muddy” divides.

Realizing the importance of not only stopping further emigration but also of encouraging immigration, Governor Hyde is backing a movement for a “Greater Missouri Association” sponsored by the Missouri Editorial Association, which is being approved rapidly by other associations in this state.

It is to be a five million dollar project. It’s objective would be chiefly to give Missouri its share of national and international publicity. California’s success is partly responsible for the Missouri idea. Boosters of the project point out that none of our famous “playground states” have as many alluring qualities, yet they have been able to make hundreds of thousands of Americans and foreigners leave their native communities and go there and spend millions every year.

The Missouri idea is to interest all Missouri businesses and professional men in the plan of boosting the state systematically.
