Well I'm going to be moving to Newberry Springs to start a Civilian Job at the Marine Corps Logistics base. I'd like to know how the cities are and if there any different then Barstow crime wise. I drove up to the Victorville/Adelanto area two weeks ago and it didn't look bad at least from what I saw.

P.S. - Can Civilian Employees shop at the Marine Corps Commissary?

From what I've seen, both Yermo and Newberry Springs are very small communities outside of Barstow to the east. Living in either of these communities would require regular trips into Barstow for your basic necessities, unless you want to buy those items at the local gas station/convenience store, and at the normally high prices those places charge. Like Barstow, they are high desert communities, with the climate and geography that comes with that area. There isn't much there, so if you're into cultural events, there isn't much that will appeal in that area. If you're into riding ATVs or watching trains, though, you might find yourself having stuff to do.

If none of the above bothers you at all, then either of these places might be right for you. Obviously, somebody thinks it's an OK place to live, otherwise, those places wouldn't exist. As for crime rates, I can't give any information, so you'll have to see what other answers you get. The same goes for the question about the commissary (I can't help there, either).

Thanks for the reply.

As for shopping I'm hoping the Commissary allows for Military Civilians to shop. Hopefully they have ways to change the registers to allow taxes to civilians as active duty don't pay taxes. Ohh was it nice buying with no taxes .

I'm trying to figure out if alot of nonsense that goes on in Barstow happens in Newberry Springs and Yermo as well.
