Actually for most people I would recommend bear spray with cannisters placed around the house.

We've heard this story ad nauseum over the last three years and two screen name changes.

In my county it is a $200 app fee, the 8 hour CCW class and a interview to get a CCW licence.
They are pretty good at spotting the aholes from the ones needing a permit.
A county of 8000, probably 3000 active permits.

Now I realize that I'm just an old, washed-up, retired legislative analyst for the state but it would seem to me that the ability to legally and selectively purchase and sell "off roster" firearms denied to the general public is a clear violation of the "equal protection" provisions of the 14th Amendment.

Yes, as well as many other Constitutional arguments that part and parcel of the many lawsuits regarding Kalifornia gun laws at the Local and State level currently.
