Paradise/Magalia are worth mentioning. Cute little mountain towns and just a short drive down the road to Chico which is a very nice college town with a historic distric right in the middle of the college..or the college is in the middle of the district,,,either way, very, very charming. Housing is cheap and even more so after the bubble burst. Lots of Bay area retirees flood into Paradise for the lower cost of living.

Yes, bro tis True.

We loved to fish Lake Camanche south shore. There are many retired folks thar, living close to the lake. Fished New Hogan, etc.

We fished The Pajaro & San Joaquin Rivers, Stanislaus & Tuolumne Rivers.

We followed & fished the CA Aqueduct & Delta Mendota canals. Boonie camped/fished the Delta/Mendota while following it from Tracy to Firebaugh.

Boonie camped & fished the San Luis O'Neill Forebay. Biggun Stripers there.

I was there last Friday and it was 68 degrees, brilliant sunshine and a fresh ocean breeze blowing in (Salinas is in the top five cities over 100K for air quality in the nation). I also had to be in Stanislaus County that same day (where Modesto is). It was 99 degrees. Nuff said.
What is the housing cost there? Good place to retire? Monterey is VERY expensive.

I currently live in a suburb of Houston, TX and it is VERY hot and humid here.

your retirement is a LONG way off. the situation in the different areas could be entirely different by then.

In retirement, I would spending $40K a year but that is just a # thrown out now. That is fairly standard right for someone having $1 Million in cash.

It won't be a big difference though, not climate.
Pricing would be about the same right?

That is my target retirement age. Am I too early to discuss this?
