I believe you will love Nipomo. Many parcels are 1/2 acre and more and people who live there are animal friendly. Lots of dogs, horses etc. It's country living and quiet. Locals refer to it as "the mesa" as it's on a plateau. There is no real downtown section but there is a Von's and some small malls in the area near the freeway. It's just a few miles to the shopping in Grover Beach, Arroyo Grande, and Santa maria and about 20 minutes to San Luis Obispo.

Arroyo Grande is more upscale and much more expensive but still a "small-town", friendly community. Weather is a bit warmer in AG but only by a few degrees. Housing costs much more than in Nipomo.

You'll love the weather and the people and the schools. You don't see gangs running around or anything like that. I currently live in Santa Maria which is the next town to Nipomo, divided by a dry riverbed and we do have a gang problem here.

My H and I have been looking for a home in Nipomo and hope to buy this year as prices are the best they have ever been.

hope this helps.
Do you mind if I ask why you're moving from Santa Maria. I've just moved there and it seems fine but I've noticed a lot of people make disparating remarks about it.

Several posters around here have made disparaging remarks to the point that I don't believe they'd mind if Santa Maris disapparated.
