Lost Hills, CA (or near by)
On the move again! We are moving back to California. . . I know you all have mixed feelings about CA, but more specifically I want to know about LOST HILLS, CA. . . or any nearby cities to live. I have researched (what I could find) about Lost HIlls, but it doesn't seem like the kind of place you can "live" in. Only like 2,000 people. So, anyone know the area, who could help us find nearby cities?

Hate to dis a town but you did ask for feedback, right?
That part of the San Joaquin valley is quite isolated. Coalinga is the closest "bigger" town and is noted for great pistachio orchards, oil wells and 2 state prisons. Drove thru Coalinga/Lost Hills a few months ago and it was 116F. Miserable heat and plenty of bugs that plaster cars every night.
I was born in nearby Fresno so have earned the right to bag on the Central Valley. Lost Hills is probably one of the least desirable areas to live if you want at least some people around. Have to drive to Tulare/Visalia/Bakersfield for entertainment. One good thing is Harris Ranch; great steaks.

Tough question since anywhere in the San Joaquin valley is kinda boring. I get off on plants and enjoy the crops especially the citrus/nut/fruit orchards. Driving down palm-lined country roads on warm evenings/listening to the tunes/feeling horny
Actually the eastern side of the valley and up into the foothills is real nice. Lake Isabella/Terra Bella/Orange Cove/Mariposa

As you can gather from the previous posts, there's not much in Lost Hills. Bakersfield, on the other hand, has nearly everything any other city its size has. There are local sporting events (minor league type stuff), museums, shopping, restaurants, night clubs, and so on. Another option to the south of Lost Hills that you might want to consider are the communities of Taft and Maricopa. There are also the communities of Wasco and Shafter, both of which are between Lost Hills and Bakersfield. All of these communities are much smaller than Bakersfield, and have fewer amenities, but are also more rural and less crowded. You would still likely need to go to Bakersfield from time to time for some of your necessities. It depends on the type of lifestyle you want to have.

Lost Hills, not much if anything there, Wasco or Shafter, I'd pick Shafter, best to live in Bakersfield. I haven't been to wasco in some time so it could be growing some, Shafter is growing and has some nice new housing.

Lost Hills is more like a rest stop... My dad worked there when I was a kid at a local restaurant... We lived in Avenal, CA... The housing prices there a relatively low... The commute from Avenal to Lost Hills is about 45min...
