Those are nice areas for sure but I must be honest and say that rents are not cheap. But then again if you got the dough to afford it I say go for it!

You are very fortunate to hook a job in Westlake. It is a great place to live. Rather expensive, but it has greenbelts everywhere, community pools and spas, great place for kids, and more convenient with all the new shopping and restaurants that have sprung up since I left. Thousand Oaks is also great. I would live anywhere from Thousand Oaks to Agoura to Calabasas/Hidden Hills, and even the west end of Simi Valley, which is north of Westlake.

Check it out on GoogleEarth. They are all very nice, very safe, upscale areas, with very pleasant weather, all of them better than most places around LA. If you look on GoogleEarth, you will see it is just down the canyon to Malibu, and also a few minutes from what used to be the best Renaissance Fair.

And if those areas are out of your budget, you can always head east on the 101 Freeway into the SanFernando Valley. Just don't go too far in, or your commute will be miserable. Personally, I'd commute to Simi before going to the valley. But the valley is ok if you stick to certain areas, and your commute will generally be against the traffic going out of town instead of in.

Default UK to California

Hi Nicole,
From one Brit to another don't go within a 100 miles of LA. It is awful!
I am also an ex pat in California. So many gorgeous places in this state. If you have no choice, use it as a starting place then GET OUT asap!!!!
