I am amused, again, Leonard ... you mourn the advanced changes to California over the years ... but you applaud those same growth characteristics in Tennessee and the south now? Now your small idyllic Tennessee town has "the stores it needs" etc. I understand your frustration is with degrees of change ... but it is the same principle at work changing where you are now.

If y'all were only willing to be satisfied without indoor plumbing and could live in tents ..... tch ...

However the more people have changed CA in ways not so good. Here they have brought needed change. Better schools, hospitals, colleges, and stores closer than 20 miles away. About 15 years ago, where I live now, there was one two lane street through "town" and it had no stop sign at the main corner and 1 gas station with a "diner" and that was it. Now we have the stores we need on a daily or weekly basis (I would like a few more restaurants) and in 20 minutes I can be at two Malls and visit as many restaurants as CA has without the traffic and much lower taxes and daily living expenses.

I do not see any improvement in CA, though I still love the State and will visit when I can. Growth is inevitable, but not always handled well.
You do make a very good point that growth isn't always handled well.

But growth is still growth, and we're still over-populated. And I'm willing to bet that until the day I die, I will continue to hear people complain about how things have changed, because the only thing that never changes is change. Such is life.

No, no, what has happened is not advances. CA when I grew up was better than TN now. It has simply gotten more crowded and less enjoyable, while TN has actually improved. More restaurants does not make a State better, when it requires more people. Not all growth is good as we see in the many TN tummies, Bama butts and GA guts around the South.

Some is way tooo much.

I would be happy to live even simpler than I do now. My wife however ............................................

Somethings are "simply" too important to do just what I want.

I could live in a box van, or with my wife. All things considered, and she is a better cook, I will have to forsake the box van.
