I NEVER last more than a few years at any adress.. so the address on my CA Driver's license is rarely correct.

I can notify the DMV of an address change alright. But I can't change the address on my license. Some businesses use the address on my ID card and assume it's correct and we run into problems later (I.e. they can't charge my credit cards, I never receive things I'm supposed to receive by mail, etc.)

I'm absolutely fed up without having an updated address on my id card at this point. What are my options? (I prefer an option that doesn't require me to use up a vacation day off from work to visit the DMV during their very limited hours.)

i'm pretty sure if you change the address on-line, they mail you a sticky thing to put over your license with the correct address. that's how it worked here in oregon.

Limited hours? My local DMV is open M-F 7:00 am - 5:00 pm, and using the online appointment system I'm seldom in the place for more than 10 minutes for registration issues.

No one's ever sent me anything. I updated my address with the DMV years ago and when license finally expired, the new one came with the right address.

I believe it's the DMV14 form.. Also, when you register to vote in a new county, you can change it then, too(it's a checkbox on the form, at least on the one I filled out from Orange County). Either way, I filed a change a few times and when I went to renew my license I mentioned that to them and they still had my old address. They said they got my submissions(apparently on record in the software), but never made the change in the system. Boggles the mind.

You can notify them of the address change but they will never send you a new card unless you do something like gone down south mentioned.

The purpose of a drivers license is to show that you're legal to drive, not prove your address for credit card purchases, so, no, the State isn't going to send you a new license for free.

There used to be a white card that you could get at the DMV to write your new address on, and keep with your license. I don't really know if they do that anymore.

Yes, I agree it's a hassle--the last time I moved, I did the "lost, need a new one" and paid for a new license with my correct address.

You can get in and out fairly quickly with an appointment, or check their website for the DMV offices in your area, and it will show up to the minute wait times.
