California has had transplants from all over the country (and increasingly, all over the world) populate it for many decades, so you should be fine.

Just don't expect to change what you don't like about it (if you find such things, that is) to what it's like on the East Coast.

We are generally pretty open minded and liberal here out west.

East coast transplants are good at complaining and criticizing as well as denigrating us. If you do those things, some other east coast transplants will approve of you but likely everyone else else will loathe you. Upon being loathed, you'll say people are weak/soft/crying because they don't like it when you openly denigrate them. As they should.

If you actually think before you speak and have any real ability to adapt to your new environment and its culture, though, you should do fine.

Contrary to the right coast where pedigree is important, here on the wrong coast we have so many transplants that we both aren't and really can't be prejudiced. We'll form our opinion of you based on your conduct and merit.

Sure we are. Y'all come! Also, pay no attention to all the "qualified" answers. You're welcome regardless - its your country after all and you have the right to live anywhere you damn well please. We welcome anyone from other states - this isn't like the Pacific NW or Colorado when a Californian moves there.

Yeah it's kind of neat meeting people from all over the place. I've never met someone from elsewhere that I haven't liked, although not all of them are happy about being here. The culture shock can be tough on some and it makes it hard to have fun with them.

East Coast transplants are to California what Afrikaners were to South Africa during the era of National Party rule.

The pizzas are usually smaller, with a very thin crust, and fewer but better quality ingredients always cooked in a wood fired oven (California coastal live oak wood is preferred just like with a proper Santa Maria style BBQ). It's more of a sipping on wine pizza than a chugging beer pizza.

As an East Coaster I'll betray my own by saying San Francisco has the best Pizza I have ever tasted.

It has only been of recent that I have actually seen Californians moving to other areas of the country (Texas in particular). They rarely ever move just like Chicagoans.

I know many Californians I've met in Texas have all said have said they are moving back when the economy turns around in California. I've met some here that are moving to Oregon because they hate the Texas heat and topography. It seems like they live here for 1 year maybe 2 and they are gone baby gone!
