A note on Yosemite; A number of posts recently have discussed the crowding in Yosemite and how unpleasant that is for people who like wild lands. I just wanted to point out that Yosemite Park is 95% designated Wilderness, and in that designated wilderness there are far fewer people than in the areas adjacent to roads. In most of the park walking 5 miles off a road way nearly guarantees good alone time. That is aside from the common and popular day hike areas, Little Yosemite Valley, JMT, etc.

Yep. Crowded, sure in the valley. A Zoo. But the other 99% of the Park and the surrounding NF along with wilderness areas, very much the word Solitude.

And no, I am not from India. I just like playing with my mother tongue...American English. Point made!

17 bears were killed by motorists in Yosemite last year, generally due to speeding. That is an ongoing tragedy.

I just spent the last week trotting around the backcountry trails on El Caballo, in 6 days of riding, I saw no more than 20 hikers and four equestrians.
