Try north of San Francisco...although, not sure what the job prospects are. What kind of work do you do?

Sorry, I think you are missing MY point.

The only "evidence" you have provided to this point about people in L.A. (or Southern California in general) having "no souls" is a quote from Jenny McCarthy, a washed up former MTV "celebrity" who got famous because of her looks.

When you paint an entire REGION of 20 million+ people as having "no souls", yes, I'm going to take offense. My family, friends, and others around me all "have souls", and we all live in SoCal. I grew up in OC and turned out OK (some might say not, lol).

My point to YOU was that you can find all types of people anywhere you go, and it is far more important in terms of who you surround yourself with, than WHERE you live.

I was going to suggest that but the OP seems stuck on the Central Coast. I think she has a crush on the highlifer.

If I had the money and the kids where out of school and I could move my business I'd pick somewhere in Marin or Sonoma Counties.

Actually a fake boob, dyed hair celebrity. Although she does raise a couple of good points.

I like raising my kids in Oxnard. They seem to be doing fine and we are close to the beach, hiking, lots of outdoor activities. If we want to drive up to Santa Barbara or down to Malibu we can. I love Oxnard for the lower cost of living but the closeness to many great things. we are also very involved with their life and education. I don't think it matters so much about schools when the parents are involved. Kids will thrive and learn when they have that support at home. Oxnard offers a diversity of living situations. You can spend millions to be on the beach or buy something for $200,000 or so. (At River Park you can get a new town home in the low $200,000 range.)

Can you believe, though I've driven through, I've never truly been anywhere north of San Fran? I hear it's gorgeous, though!

Oh, to answer your question, I have backgrounds in finance and digital marketing (right now doing finance for digital marketing to combine my skills ).

The only "evidence"? So glad you know me so well. Since you know me so well, are you forgetting that I've lived in California?

I am not painting an entire region. Please re-read. I love California. I love a lot the states I've lived in, but are there parts in those states I wouldn't want to raise a child in but would live in as a single adult? Yes. Hence, this thread. I've lived in CA, but I obviously haven't lived in ALL of CA, which is why I was turning to others that may know more about parts I've never been to, or haven't yet lived in.

I agree it is more important in terms of who you surround yourself with. If you knew anything about me, you'd know that I say that on this very board all the time.

However, like I said, I believe children are affected by their surroundings. I know places in the Mid-Atlantic that I'd NEVER raise a child in, and was just trying to learn other places in CA that are better than others for raising children (other than the parts of CA I already know since I've lived there).

If you take offense to the question, I am sorry about that, but it seems to me the real problem here is you making assumptions about someone you don't know and reading more into things than has actually been written.

We are actually on the same page, if you would read what I've said, and knew me better before making judgements.

lol No. I'm not stuck on any one part of CA. The only thing I'm stuck on is warm weather.

Ohh, those sound lovely. Would you raise kids there?

For the record, I do intend to start back in OC when I return soon, since it's one of the areas of CA I know well. While I'm there I'll be traveling, trying parts of CA I've never lived in, looking for a nice place to possibly buy my next home and raise children.

Owww, great info. Thank you!!! Sounds like I need to add that to my itinerary on my way up to Santa Barbara.

Your implication is that Southern California is NOT a good place to raise children because it is "soul-less". You follow that up by saying things like you don't want your kids to covet Mercedes.

Do you agree with my interpretation of your original question?

If my interpretation is incorrect, I apologize. But you SEEM to make it very clear by your OP that this is what you think.

I have read your posts very clearly, and I am only judging by what YOU have written.

But go for it: I'm sure the Central Coast is free of those materialistic soul-less people you are trying to flee from.
