Santa Clara County's former top schools chief wants to unload underwater house onto taxpayers - San Jose Mercury News

"SAN JOSE -- Retired county schools Superintendent Charles Weis wants to unload his luxury condo in downtown San Jose -- which has lost about a fifth of its value since its purchase in 2008 -- onto his former employers, potentially costing Santa Clara County taxpayers hundreds of thousands of dollars..."

Remember, folks, it's all about the children.

That's one educator. And, it's not just a rank-and-file schoolteacher, it's a superintendent.

The average teacher in a major California city would be happy to get paid enough to get a mortgage in the first place; the notion of unloading it on the public doesn't even enter the equation.

My thoughts on a decent job, that one can buy a house and a new car, not much to ask though is it? Most teachers don't make enough to do that.

CEOs or government executives like this - Rarely are they ever worth the money they're paid.

School Superintendents by and large make more than the governor.

As someone who actually works in higher education, I can say it's a lot like working for a huge corporation where CEOs have yachts, while the actual employees make peanuts. It pisses us off, but I don't think most of us are in the field for the prestige or paychecks...

I know a lot of Teachers that walked away from homes they could'nt afford. I believe we tax payers picked up that tab along with Teachers that didn't buy more than they should have.

Yeah, I was gonna say... I wonder how many people who worked in the mortgage business or finance for companies like Countrywide or WaMu found themselves in similar piles of quicksand?

I knew a few people who were teachers during the credit boom and scraped by through that all the same. No one has ever gotten into teaching to get rich. They've done it because they like to teach. Maybe it's this conscious decision to NOT pursue wealth that makes them so loathed by the talking heads on the right and the suckers who fall in behind them?
