Want to move to California, but where?
Hi, I'm a 52 yr. old heterosexual male widowed and on SSDI with HIV for 20 years. I live in SC now and it SUCKS especially with this virus (bible belt etc.). California sounds cool especially since they allow medical marijuana but drugs is not what I seek. I get over $1,100/mo. and have an OK stash of cash but that is for moving and traveling. I need good medical treatment as I also have hep C. I just want to live out what is left of my life and be kept comfortable. Where is a good locality, cheap, not trendy but where I don't have to carry a ratchet all the time to feel safe? I don't mind occaisionally carrying metal since I grew up in Houston and know the streets but just reasonably cheap and reasonably safe/unsafe as that is where affordable housing is. I ride a M/C but also lived in Boston and mass transit is cool . My other option is S.America but I loose my Medicare/caid but can live like a king on $1,000+/mo. Any ideas gratefully accepted.
Kind regards,
Uncle John

If $1100 a month is all the income you get, and if you plan not to work, southern California is out. Period. Oh..many communities are scrapping any medical marijuana programs that once existed.

Same for Northern CA. I pay $1195 for rent here in the SF Bay Area. And alot of the cities here have moratoriums on Medical Marijuana clinics. And others are being raided for illegal operations.
Honestly, good luck finding any place where you can live off of $1100/mo in California.

Well.. Sorry to break it to you but $1100 will barely get you in a trailor in a trailor park. If you did, you would be living off beans and rice. San Francisco is way out of the picture. Try more remote spots of California.

You can include the San Joaquin valley in that as well. Beware that when moving you monthly stipend can and often does change, I know this as we moved my mother from CA to ID and hers changed.

Hi, SC is the poorest state in the USA so it is cheap but lousy help with HIV. Mass., NY, and CA are the best for treatment but the most expensive to live. One thing I know for sure is we'll all die so maybe going to Costa Rica (or S. America) where $1,100 is good money at least I can get drugs to keep me comfortable. See you in the next world....and don't be late!
