With the Dems holding a supermajority how long before an effort is made to repel prop. 13?

Within two years. Kill Prop. 13, best pension-funding defense ever.

The Repubs would kill Obamacare on day 1 if they could so the Dems should do the same with prop. 13.

Won't happen, they know that the backlash would be too significant.

Backlash from old timers? I don't think they'd be too worried about that. There's a gold mine to be tapped in all that home equity.

All the more reason for the backlash... from the property owners of all ages.

I can't believe some people believe this would actually happen.

Yep and the taxes due on the value of a foreclosed property will be less for a loonnggg time than on one currently occupied.

Do they want to YES.

I just got the property tax bill on my CA facility and they valued it at the right figure BUT they then valued the items inside at $1,000,000.00 without even visiting and in-spite of the fact the last report to them showed the actual value, which is under $100,000.00. That little error tripled the tax demanded.

That makes the Tax assessors office:

1. Staffed by idiots who can't read or count.
2. Liars to bump revenue.
3. Humm, I think that is it.

And people wonder why business leave CA.

That's a great way to wind up like New Jersey with $500k houses paying $18k/yr in tax. Only we still won't have the schools to show for it. But I'm sure it would speed the completion of the vital Fresno to Modesto high speed (72 mph) rail line.

Gosh... I sure hope not.

It is the one thing that adds a modicum of predictability to my finances.

I have two appeals before the county right now... one for last tax year and one for the year before that.

I guess anything is possible when one party has a super majority.

Thankfully we do have options and one is voting with your feet...

Almost all the retired law enforcement officers I know relocate to other states soon after retirement... they have good pensions earned by government employment... not enough of an incentive to stay.

I'm not much of a political person... one thing I am passionate about is keeping the roof over my head and I see Prop 13 as crucial to that in the long term.
