Default What are the nice sides of Modesto?

North, South, East, West? Looking for a rental that's not in ghetto.

Thanks for any input.

Modesto was on the bottom of the list for nice places to live in CA. My husband lived there for many years. His mother still lives there. I still have yet to find a nice place area in Modesto. Lots of crime!

So you're saying Modesto's best side is the one in your rear view mirror.

Well that stinks....we have to move there for a short period of time so if anyone can tell me a bareable side, that would suffice.....

Smile Modesto is sorta crappy, but. . .

one decent area is down by Modesto Junior College's East Campus. Off of College St. It's a little area that has lovely older homes, lots of trees, is shady (I mean from the trees, not necessarily crime-ridden), and quiet. Modesto does have a high crime rate and it is not my favorite place in the world, but if I had to live there, that's where I'd look first. The streets are named after colleges such as Colombia Way, Princeton Ave., Stanford Ave., Amherst Ave., etc., just to give a point of reference.

Best of luck!

Try looking on the east or north side. Another place that might work for you is Turlock about 20 min down the 99.

I have lived in Modesto for over twenty years, I have been very happy here. I agree the east side of the town is best north too, stay away from west modesto, and north west lots of crime and gang problem big time. Turlock has crime too alot of recent gang problems. of course like Modesto Turlock has a few good areas but not many. right next to Turlock, Keys the worst area, some homes located in new Bright subdivison in Keys has Hughson address. AVOID ceres high gang area it may look nice in some areas on the surface but gangs are a major problem.
Please rember all citys have crime, some more then others. you just have to take the time to learn the good and bad areas and avoid the bad......

teebear, I have to disagree. Modesto is real hit and miss when it comes to the decent areas. Ask around and check out the places on a saturday night and I think theres ways to check online where crimes happen in the city. anything off of mable rd. is good. I though northwest was fine, compared to anything off Tully, McHenry, Briggsmore, Prescott, Carpenter, should I keep going? Claus, anything downtown, Scenic, Rose, East side of Coffee, Anything south modesto, Airport district, should I keep going? ok. Paradise, Mitchell, Hatch, Crows Landing, Sylvan, Standiford, I could do this all night. You get the point.
