Palm Springs itself has most of the cool midcentury architecture, and the newer houses are very streamlined contemporary. In the adjacent cities, the houses are more typical tract/faux Spanish/big box.

We want to move because I hate the winter and my wife hates the humidity. When we were in Palm Springs we saw all the different types of houses and we loved it.

You do know that Palm Springs gets chilly sometimes, right? The desert nights in winter are FREEZING!

Yes I did. It did cool down quite a bit. And is Joshua Tree a bad area?

Joshua Tree is a National Park, a fine place to visit. Just west of Palm Springs is the tram, take it up and hike or ski in the wilderness around Mt. San Jacinto.

I know a number of people with two homes, they spend winter in Palm Springs, and Summer at Lake Tahoe, a reasonable way to live.

Be advised PS/Coachella Valley are subject to some brutal heat/humidity conditions during monsoon season.

The area is beautiful scenery for a weekend. To live FT ? Never. Might as well live in PHX which offers far better opportunities if you want 115 in the summer. I live in Tempe myself. Better taxes and still a days drive from San Diego or Rocky Point.

You see crackheads and methheads on Cops episodes that are filmed in PS and Cathedral City. It isn't the desert oasis that the Chamber of Commerce markets it as. There's wealthy transplants and lowlive scum. No real middle class to speak of in the Coachella Valley.
