If I ever find myself homeless, I'm going to scrounge up enough money for a one-way bus ticket and head for Southern California. I saw homeless people sleeping on the cliff above the beach in Santa Monica when I was there, and I thought to myself that wouldn't be a bad place to live if you're homeless
Is it possible living in a van in Chicago?

If you do come here please don't come to San Francisco. We already have WAAAYYY more than our share of out-of-state homeless.

At least in California, you can be warm while you're being stabbed for your shoes.

Where do they all sleep? Homeless shelters?
If they don't sleep in homeless shelters, can they sleep somewhere safe?
Are homeless shelters safe?

Bus benches. Sidewalks. Alleys. Parks. Under bridges. Behind freeway sound walls. Libraries.

It's very dangerous. Homeless people are being murdered at an alarming rate.
