Leonard,

I was reminiscing about the good old days of LA and came across this wonderful article.

How many people in LA hacked up a lung living in that stuff?

It isn't that bad now for sure. Thank smog standards for that.

Fontucky's photo looks much nicer by comparison.

Great photos, Senno. Is the air quality better there now? I haven't been in southern California since the early 80s and it wasn't all that great back then.

(early sixties) My walk home from elem school was ~1 mile. By the time I got home it hurt to breathe, and this was in South OC at the beach. Visibility was down to <100 yards. The cloud of brown poison would roll out of the Basin, wait offshore, then roll onto the S. OC beaches once the afternoon onshore flow picked up, just in time for afternoon phys ed and the walk home. I can only imagine what it was like in the interior valleys.

Thank you commie socialist anti free enterprise pinkos.

Holy cow. I was curious about TN and smog. So I consulted my old 1979 World Book Encyclopedia and didn't find much. So I consulted myself and decided not to fly to TN and visit, I'd check out the internets instead.

Seems TN has a Dept. of Health that has some smog concerns.

I think this is Nashville or Memphis, not sure. But it sure is kinda smudgy over there.

I also noticed that Leonard seems to fuel up about every 2 days, and he saved a penny @ 3.12 the second time.

Yeah as a kid I could see the smog as a big cloud hanging over the Western sky line (from Fullerton). before I my family moved to Fullerton we lived right at the base of the Mountains in Pasadena. I remember one day as a child not being able to see down the street due to the smog. As the years progressed, in OC, I watched it get closer and closer and ... thank goodness for emission improvements. Of course now it is what you can't see that is the problem.

Looks like Nashville.

As to fueling up I own 6 cars/trucks, though the 64 GTO does not run. The 67 does.

I remember my first solo flight at San Jose Municipal airport in 1969. I took off and was immediately number 6 to land. I could only find 1 other airplane in the pattern because of the smog. This was not unusual back then. Breaking through the inversion layer at 2000' provided an excellent view of the mountains surrounding the Bay Area.

Thanks to CA emissions standards, that situation no longer exists with any frequency at all.

Fortunately my employer covered my parking when I was down there.

But I think the thing to do now is ***** about meters and no parking?
