My son is stationed at Point Mugu Naval Air Station. I live in Sacramento and am planning to go visit him for a few days and need to find a hotel. I've heard that Oxnard can be scary, but otherwise I know nothing about the area. My son hasn't been on base long enough to really help me. What is a good area, close to base, to stay in?

There are several hotels near the 101 in the Camarillo area.

Ventura would be a little farther but it might be more interesting for a tourist.

There are quite a few in the Oxnard / Pt Hueneme area that are nice. (I've lived in Oxnard for 30+ years and don't find it scary at all
) I work at Mugu and most visitors coming to the base stay at the following places: Country Inn, Port Hueneme or Camarillo....Embassy Suites, Oxnard....Residence Inn, Oxnard....Hilton Garden Inn, Oxnard. All are in totally safe areas.
