Here is a link to a very interesting California organization / site concerned with all aspects of recycling and Zero Waste goals in California specifically. A favorite cause / topic of mine.

As some of you may know, Zero Waste as a movement was born as a wastewater project of concern in Oakland in the 1970's. The concept has now grown to be a world-wide effort encompassing every kinds of waste, recycling, and reuse opportunity, in which California continues to lead by example.

Zeroing In On Zero Waste | Californians Against Waste

Those interested will find links to information on all kinds of recycling and Zero Waste issues and projects for the state. MOD CUT

As Californians, what do you think of how this movement is progressing and improving / or hurting your state specifically? Relate your comments to California as much as possible. Please and thank you.

I think reducing waste is an admirable goal and should be supported in this state within reason. I think some restrictions go too far and have unintended consequences, like the plastic bag bans. People are getting sick from their food getting contaminated by the un clean bags.

I think these types of programs should be geared toward education and making recycling more convenient to users. I have a problem when they start forbidding people from doing things.

Ok now your just getting whiney. LOL

Edumucating the large illegal population of this state is the biggest issue with regards to land stewardship.

To repeat myself: In addition to the usual drink cans and bottles, I save food cans for recycling. How many others do that? Please chime in if you do.

I sort my tin cans, paper boxes, card board, plastic. It is not that hard, especially with mutli purpose recycle bins provided by waste companies. My garbage can is usually 1/4 what is in my recycle can.

It amazes me how many are still to lazy to sort recyclables. Much the less try to get their CRV deposit back.

For the past 9 years I've had a commercial account with a large dumpster, so I tend to forget about the separate bins thing. I have to sort my recyclables and store them on site until I have enough for a run to the metal recycling place across the freeway.

I don't eat a ton of canned food, but when I do, I wash the can, sand down any rough edges, and use in the garage to store stuff. They come in especially handy to store all things associated with whatever particular project I'm working on at the moment.
