You can’t compare tornadoes....earthquakes and Volcanoes as one great philosopher tried to do in the other thread. It's all about probabilities and when they pay there home owners' every month that should be the first clue....

I do wish best of luck to them and I hope they find the pieces of garbage starting some of these fires.
basically all a bit of a commentary on what people in this country (everywhere?) tend to want, risk, ignore... sometimes the risk is worth the reward for some people. i wonder if that pans out over the long run (not to wax too vague and philosophical). as for the cause(s) of the fires, i wonder how you might relate it.

Ta-Da! It's sad, it's full of sympathetic feelings, but it's also reality. You can't get away from Mother Nature while living.

As you, I do wish them luck. At the same time, I hope there will not be this danged blame-game aimed at the gubmint cause someone demands to be obstinate and unwaivering, building and rebuilding ad infinitum knowing the possibilities of repeat performances are high.

let's not forget that the "gubmint" promotes, even subsidizes, much of this growth and lands many of it's resources right in the middle of what we're talking about (laboratories, universities, agriculture, facilities and infrastructure, offices, high income tax and political base, etc.), while not always effectively acting to protect and respond, right? not that there's been a lack of protection or response in this case, but, then again that's something else i cannot know well at this point.

meanwhile, any thoughts or info on causes or suspects in arsons?

Has arson been proven, or is it still speculative? I ask honestly, cause I don't have television. All my money is wrapped up in the net.

Causes? Sure. Outside of arson, which I think I heard/read of someone parking vehicles in harm's way to collect insurance, didn't I?, drought, dry vegetation, and a couple of downed power lines can raise all sorts of havoc. But I'm not going to venture into the terrorism aspects some of y'all have been pontificating over. This burning cycle happens all too often, anyway, so just based on what I've heard or read, I don't think terrorism has anything to do with it all. I could be wrong...

Sounds like they made an arrest on the arson.

do you have a link?

any mention of whether many of the fires were arson? any mention of whether there was any concerted effort in setting the fires?

just out of curiosity, what do you make of the pattern in time and space of the fires? did you look at the maps linked in previous posts here? does it look to you like the way it usually happens (over decades kind of thing)?

Let's say it was so-called "terrorism". Just what acts constitute it as terrorism? Loss of life/damage/intent/origin/ethnicity...??

Arson investigated in California fires - Yahoo! News (broken link)

hmm. so, maybe it WASN'T "power lines"? maybe those fires WERE a little too contemporaneous and neatly distributed?

the plot thickens...
