I agree. There is going to be a surge of insurance money, federal aid, and donations. The San Diego economy was going south. This could be the shot in the arm it needed. Regrettably.

Unfortunately, what comes next are the mudslides. And there will be more this season because of all the fires.

It's a tremendous boon to the environment. Lots of new plant growth will occur. Habitat will be improved. There will be a boom in animal populations. Also, you've just massively decreased the fire danger for the next decade in the burned areas.

Only if it rains. So far, we've only had 3" for the whole year -- that's why everything is so dry.

People always complain about how people build their houses so far out, but the reality is that if people didn't build in Rancho Bernardo-the fires would have moved further to the coast with the fuel and the same probably would have been said about Carlsbad/Del Mar... it's all relative.

Well ... if the last big fire was an indication, home prices went through the roof when 5,000 homes were lost.

I don't think housing prices will go up after this one but, it could mitgate the downslide.

Landlords will definitely benefit ... since there was a lot price gouging during the last big fire also.

The benifits will be short term, temporary, and concentrated in the building industry. The overall economic problems will remain. Many people will decide after 2 major fires in 4 years that it is sensible to rebuild, sell, and move, placing more inventory into the market. It took a few years for the impact of multiple hurricanes to affect Florida. but look now at the results now. Add to that the number of people who will decide not to move here because of the fires and the outlook is not positive.
