I'd have one of the little houses right ON Venice Beach. Like right where the bike and jogging paths are, patio facing the ocean. VB may be dirty but I love it!! My wifes first time in L.A. I felt so sad, she got really happy (she had no idea the cost of real estate there) and she said to me, "See honey maybe we could get one of those little houses. They are so cute. I love them! I'd plant a little garden too."
Knowing well I did not want to ruin her moment of happiness I said, "That sounds great! Maybe we should start off with a little apartment in West Hollywood first."
Weeks later I clued her in on the cost of even a rundown studio in the Venice Beach area, let alone an actual house ON VB. Still she says someday we will live there no matter what it takes.
I believe in miracles, but I've never been very lucky at landing good paying jobs, and I think it's safe to say even those who are very well-to-do cant afford those houses.

I love the Hollywood Hills. Huge mansions, warm summers, close to everything.
Another home in Laguna Beach. A penthouse in the new Park Fifth Towers in DT LA and one in SF.
A winter home in Mammoth to go snowboarding.
One in SLO or Pismo Beach where I could go to relax and get away from the busy, hectic life of large cities.
Hollywood Hills would be my main residence. Laguna would be for summers. DT LA whenever I wanted to because I could just drive. SF only in summer since its too cold the rest of the year. SLO/Pismo whenever I felt stressed and needed to just relax and take it easy.
Man, wouldn't that be the life?

Oh, Im not sure, but if theres a small spot in the high desert that isnt too heavily populated, definately would choose someplace like that. But its really pretty up here, you can see the stars at night, (thousands of them!) clearer air (when we dont have fires surrounding us) and friendly people. Coming from Az Ive already heard flack about leaving the Az desert to live in a Calif desert. But here we dont get 9 months of extreme summer, and my heart, family and friends are all here or in the midwest.
