Of course, if you're not trained in small arms tactics, and have a black belt in jiu-jitsu, I wouldn't recommend it.
Was gonna say, that's pretty cheap....

It's astoundingly cheap cause I was taught $100 was ok in the early 90's. And it's not that bad an area of Bakersfield all things considered.

I saw it when I was looking for a condo up in NE

93305, Bakersfield average and median listing prices - Trulia.com

Quote:
Average price per square foot for homes in 93305 was $67 in the most recent quarter, which is 28.72% lower than the average price per square foot for homes in Bakersfield.

I didn't say anything about "vs", but there really is no comparison. Central Austin is a small area of a small city, East LA is a fairly large area of a large city. Someone in East LA has access to far more than someone in Central Austin.

Regardless, my point was that prices in the urban cores of Texas cities aren't cheap. Prices in Texas' large cities will accelerate as the cheap land gets pushed further and further out.

That's the weird thing about Oakland. There are condos in West Oakland literally 6-7 miles away from condos in South Beach, S.F. The difference in rent per month is in the thousands.

Some people think West Oakland is safe enough to live in, I happen to think it's amazingly dangerous with a thriving drug trade. Just depends on your tolerance I suppose. If you can put up with the gun battles, drug dealers on the corner, then it's probably the cheapest area you will find in the central Bay Area.

Agreed. Up to 14 bangs in the clip, and 1 bang in the hole in West Oakland. More if they have an illegally procured assault rifle.

Couldn't resist... little punchy tonight.

A former coworker e-mailed to say he wishes he was in California... he is in Austria and the high today will be 20F and Oakland was in the 70's... he has icy roads and snow later in the week.

They always say the time I worked there was the warmest winter on recollection and that was because I brought the California weather with me...

Just about everything there is expensive except property tax is extremely cheap... the government wants everyone to have a roof over their head and property is passed down generation to generation... need more space... add on or add up.

They make up for it with $9 gasoline and 20% sales tax...

When they visit... they are floored my East Oakland home of 1725 square feet built in 1957 is taxed at $9,000 a year... which is about 10 times more than over there.

It was a funny joke.

When I was in Atlanta in the early '90's the company I worked for put us up at a hotel that I think was called the Villas as I recall just north of Buckhead. We were 4 to an apartment/hotel dealio with kitchenette and everything.

One night after we got back from the American Pie shots rang out from the apartments behind the hotel and my roommate and I hit the floor like you wouldn't believe. We stayed down there for 15 minutes, then we had to go check on the women to reassure them that all was well. (they called us in our room and asked us to for the ardent feminists in the crowd...)

I've chased off prowlers from my parents house when I was a kid (1 was my sisters boyfriends brother for whatever reason he decided to come around) but that shot was just across the fence from us.

I'm in shock over the $9 gasoline. Euros have been telling me for years on the internet that our gas is cheap so I don't feel that bad about our prices here in Fresno generally, but 9, holy cow...

"Quality of life" means nuthin' to folks who can only think like Walmart (aka, crappy, faster, more, cheaper.... disposable).
