Well, it's not the worse place in the state. Look at Imperial Valley.

Ah, yes, Madera. I once knew a girl who lived in Madera. Long time ago, when I was a young man. Not a day passes I don't think her and the promise that I made which I will always keep. That one perfect day in Madera.

Oh wait, that was in Visalia, I always get those two mixed up...

How is Merced doing these days? I used to stop on my way to Yosemite or Fresno and think that the downtown area had some potential and with UC Merced it could be a cool little college town...possibly someday. But Merced always seems as sleepy and rundown as other towns along that stretch of the Central Valley for the most part...

Well, I think Merced has had some growth from the UC that went in, that's been mitigated against by the general state of the economy in the valley. There are some nice areas, and some bad areas like any typical valley town.

It's got some nice old buildings mixed in with the new suburban sprawl.

My ex and her new husband are psych techs in Porterville. He's a supervisor though.

The program at Porterville College is 2 years to get a psych tech cert or whatever they get. Can work in corrections with it or at the Developmental Centers, and group homes I guess.
Psych Tech is an equivalent license to a Licensed Vocational Nurse so they don't have to limit themselves to working in state facilities.

I am particularly in favor of job opportunities in Weed Patch!

Probably not a bad idea these days, especially since they started reducing the state prison populations.

Another place hiring if you got mechanical experience of 5 years or more is blue diamond almonds/nuts with their new warehouse opening on the outskirts of Turlock. I'm not qualified enough to apply to but its a gonna be a good sized building by the foundation and buildings being erected. Turlock is a nice town. not too big or small
