Yup. it is a nice place in a very nice area. It is expensive (being a lake resort) compared to near by Chester and Westwood. There is much to do, from hikning, boating to mtn biking, horses etc. Lassen Park is a spectacular National Park just up the road. Eagle Lake is also a great place to take a look at, just north of Susanville.

Lake Almanor and Chester are a great area!! Like Great Basin said, its pricey because its a resort area. Alot of people working at the prisons commute to Westwood, Pine Town, Clear Creek, and Chester. Last winter was very mild, so driving was easy. The years when there is alot of snow, makes it more difficult. On a good weather day, the commute from Lake Almanor to the prison is about 45 minutes if there is no road work anywhere, lol. On a bad day with ice and snow, it can be 1 1/2 hours. If you are going to make that commute, have a 4x4 with snow tires. Some people ride share, but you never know who will get held for overtime and who won't, so sometimes rideshares are not worth it!

If you are just starting out at the prison, Susanville will be more affordable to live.
