Fresno is a cheap place to go to school...that's about it. The city has nothing else to offer. I've been here for 4 years (school) and so happy to leave. If affordability is not an issue, I would definitely pick another city in either Northern California or Southern California. You'd get a much better "California experience."

Also in regards to the bad weather, it gets very hot in the summer and very cold in the winter (but no snow). The air quality is also one of the worst. If you have no allergies, be prepared to acquire some when you come to Fresno. Lots of pollution from the farm agriculture community and pollution from the bay area all gets stuck here in the central valley.

There are good areas and bad areas--just like anywhere. I've got relatives who live there and have a great life. Their school was just rated #36 in the nation by US News and World Report. Lots of chain stores and restaurants have recently opened up in Fresno. Housing is cheaper than in most of the coastal areas. You can have a good life there.

Fresno is an okay place . Like other cities , it has a bad side and good side . The highschools and middle schools are bad ! They teaching is okay can do better buht they kids there . They make Fresno look bad when it really isn't . The ignorant people over here are cracked . The teens here 13-17 are already doing drugs , smoking , having sex , babies , std's , in gangs , and drug dealing ! I currently live in Clovis which is much nicer . I remember in middle school when a teacher [substitute] one called me a b**** in spanish because i was squinting to see the board , i tried telling the office and they did nothing which surprised me , thats when i started hating fresno . The kids try anything to be the center of attention which is real sad . They think Clovis kids are spoiled and snobby buht Fresno is nothing different . Except the kids are trying to be like Clovis kids , They beg their parents to buy the things they don't have , the glamorous stuff . I mean clovis kids are already driving BMW'S Lexus Mercedes Benz Mini's and every other current dated cars and Fresno kids are trying to get there . I mean I live in clovis buht i'm not rich , i have to work for the things i want . And Fresno has a lot of haters . Cuhs i got alot of haters lol . I am a teenager buht i do see how fresno is , it's dirty and filled with a lot of ignorant people . Done ! That's it . Fresno is an okay place . The positive side is that there are people like me trying to get through school and life and working really hard which you may enjoy . The college students are mature and focused . Some slack off buht you don't need to meet them . :]

I went to Fresno State and had a fun college experience. you could too. Fresno is not the greatest place to live, but nothing says you have to stay forever. Are you thinking of going to Fresno State or are you just looking to go to California?

the OP only made one post and the post is almost 2 years old.

OP, are you still interested in fresno?

i'm in fresno now.. and it's really not bad. to be honest, it's like any other growing city.

and if one is familiar with the central valley, fresno isn't that much different.

passed through their on way to SF and back--115 degrees going up, 116 coming back about a week later. Dry, dusty, the only thing it has going for it is a celebrity mayor, the crazy guy in "Southern Comfort" great movie BTW.

Except the last time the city of Fresno hit 115 was July 8, 1908 so it must have been a looong time ago that you went through. It has never been 116 in Fresno. The weather service high temperature records are at:
Facts about 100 Degree Temperatures at Fresno

Alan Autry is no longer mayor, Fresno's mayor is now a 36 year old woman. With 3 out of 7 city council members plus the mayor under age 40, it should be interesting to watch Gen X's impact on the city.

Dry and dusty? LOL so all the trees I see around Fresno are invisible to outsiders. Acually that plus the temps make it sound like you drove I-5 which while in Fresno County is 60 miles from the city and a different climate zone.

I lived in Fresno from age 8 till about 20. I couldn't wait to get out. Its very hot in the summer and cold and foggy in the winter. It has grown a lot and Fresno and Clovis are now connected. It doesn't have the great cultural events that cities like SF and La have. Stay away from Fresno.
