"or purple and orange houses "

Personally, I'd welcome a break from the serried ranks of beige and tan earth toned stucco boxes that stretch into infinity.

OH NO! Someone left their garage door open for a couple of hours! Report them to the HOAstapo immediately! Our quality of life is being threatened!

I bet you're just the kind of horrid person who has a dog sleeping in the sun on your porch too. Old pick-up truck parked in the drive? Disgrace.

My old pickup's in the garage, but the garage door is open. The dog is out front sunbathing, flopped on her side in the dirt beside an orange tree, sound asleep. I'm seriously considering painting the place Welch's grape juice purple with mauve trim. That should match the color of the Concords hanging from the grape vines later on this Summer.

I used to keep my washing machine under a tarp (yes, blue) under the overhang of my 5th wheel trailer parked in the yard ... yes, it was hooked up out there to the garden hose and an extension cord, and that's where I washed clothes ... no dryer ... used an old fashioned rope between trees for that.

Does any of the above break HOA rules most places? If it does I'm gonna have to pass on the neighborhood I guess.

When we were house hunting in Washington, we saw a few different houses in fabulous shades of purple. They made me smile and I wished I could be friends with such confident, fun people. And a (friendly) dog on a front porch? Bring me a rocking chair, I'm there!

A big, slow, lovable yellow and white pit/lab who just wants to lean against people.

We're definitely not HOA-types, are we, Fontucky?! I guess some people are happy with sterile and same.

OR

septic tanks, long distance to jobs, lack of entertainment, rough and rugged roads, lack of shopping and dining venues, one coffee job, small movie theater, and lack of major transportation for a farm and large open space.

proximity to jobs and amenities trumps rural living for me. Grew up in a small town and NEVER again. Kids at that high school were all white and rude and racist. Thank goodness my dad retired at the right time because the job market in the rural area crashed.

Also there tends to be a higher concentration of educated people in suburban and urban areas vs. rural areas are more affordable, but that also means people with low income and usually less educated low income people live there.
