I'm hoping to go to California on vacation soon. I hope to visit the following places:

>San Francisco
- Golden Gate Bridge
- Union Square
- Fisherman's Wharf
- Alcatraz Island
- Lombard Street
- Chinatown
- Cable cars

>Yosemite National Park
- Not sure what the best things here are? Suggestions please.

>Los Angeles
- Universal Studios Hollywood
- Disney's California Adventure
- La Brea Tar Pits
- Nixon Library
- Reagan Library
- Hollywood Walk of Fame
- Griffith Observatory
- Santa Monica Pier
- TCL Chinese Theatre
- USS Iowa?
- Staples Center?

>San Diego
- San Diego Zoo
- San Diego Safari Park
- Cabrillo National Monument
- Balboa Park
- USS Midway?
- Tijuana?

Would it be possible to cover this in around 2 1/2 weeks?

Any other suggestions for good places to visit would be appreciated, as would any places on here that would probably not be worth attending.

You would need two weeks to cover most of what was listed in the Los Angeles area alone!

Your SF list could be handled in two days, however if you can throw in a professional baseball game while there that is always exciting

Yosemite; Half Dome and any of the water falls are awesome and it's a nice retreat from the concrete jungle.

Good luck and enjoy!

Miss Cleosmom is dead on, with the SF and Yosemite stuffs. Often done what you propose for SF in a weekend.

I don't think your list is a 2 weeker in LA though. I do like Magic Mountain as well.

Overall ambitious plans. You will need a vacation from the vacation when you are done I'd think.

Maybe there's an event to take in at the Staples Center. Otherwise you can kinda drive by and wave I guess, hehe.

It would be possible, some of the things you want to do only take a few minutes, like GG bridge and Lombard St for starters. Some you can combines with other sites and you might want to even do the touristy day tour thing. It isn't as fun or as satisfying but at least you could say, saw it. The other option: cut some of the stuff out:

For me, the musts would be: everything you have on the San Francisco list, but they can be done in a day or so, probably a weekend. I would add Muir Woods and Sausalito to that list. Forget Yosemite, you would need a couple of days plus driving time and during tourist season it is packed. It is a wonderful experience, but I don't think it could fit into the plans you seem to have. If you do choose to do Yosemite, you will really have to cut some of the So Ca. activities out. I assume you will be driving, so you might want to add a very wineries onto the list and a quick stop in Santa Barbara, as well as Solvang.

L.A. must sees:

Both libraries, especially the Reagan, the setting itself is worth the trip: Chinese theater: Santa Monica pier, Hollywood walk of fame and Griffith Park observatory for starters. Yes, Disney and Universal studios are great, but I think if you did one, you would be happy. I would do Disney, if I could only do one of them. You may want to think about seeing Dodger Stadium if you are a baseball fan, at all?

I think everything on the San Diego list would be worth seeing, but I just don't think you will have the time.

I don't intend to spend too long at Universal, just want to see the Studio Tour really. With Disney, I'm happy just going to California Adventure.

I'm was intending to fly into LA, hire a car, then Amtrak to SF, then hire another car, drive to Yosemite, drive back to SF and amtrak to SD, then amtrak to LA and fly out again. If there's an easier way to do this that involves flying in and out of LA, suggestions would be appreciated.

We don't drink, so I probably won't go to the wineries. I do like baseball, so I might go to the Dodger Stadium, or maybe a baseball game in SF instead. I'll leave out Staples, and see USS Midway in SD instead of USS Iowa. For SD, I'll leave out Tijuana.

Should this work out?
