I loved when I was in Iowa. Everyone would say excitedly to me "I have a cousin/aunt/uncle/brother/sister in San Diego!!!". I would rather wearily say "I live about 500 miles north of there" "Yes, its still in California".

Of course. San Francisco didn't get the nickname "cowtown" for nothing and a neighborhood called The Tenderloin. It's arena is called the Cow Palace. It has a beef producing past.

My partner's ancestors had a dairy farm on Elizabeth Street in what is now called Liberty Heights. The house is still there, but the cows aren't.

Wow your roots in your city run deep. This brings up another point, we're not all recent transplants. Some of us have deep roots in CA. I'm a fourth generation Californian myself. Maybe fifth, I know four for certain.
