So my daughter is visiting from Upstate New York and she brought her boyfriend, who has never been west of Texas. They flew into SFO, traveled north to Mendocino County, then east to Sacramento and then to our place in the Sierras.

I asked boyfriend what he thought of CA. He said, it is nothing at all like he imagined () he thought was it all sunny warm beaches, palm trees everywhere, urban everywhere etc, etc, etc.

Yep says I. And I mentioned that CA gets the most snow in North America, is 97% rural and the closest ocean beach is a six hour drive.

I smiled.

I remember when I was in Des Moines for a year I kept getting asked if I surfed (and why not). I finally started answering "You're from Iowa - do you keep a hog in your backyard?".

Ah, 'perception by television' is so common.

If television depicted CA as being a place without gravity, people from other parts of the USA would believe CA really had no gravity.

Add some fine rum and this weekend is officially underway! Nice weather they got down here in the OC. Going to try to undo OC stereotypes, which is all but impossible, but will report on the progress.

Hello everybody! This is my second day here and I am making friends already! Two nice men have asked me. I don't think Elmer would mind since he's been gone 35 years now. And my son has showed me that you get points when people like what you write and I can give them to people too. It's like getting stars on your papers in grade school! What fun! So thank you to that nice Mr. Tulemutt and the others who sent me points. I will send out my own to everyone who is nice. And for being smart too.

But anyway I thought I would just say that I am sorry to hear that stereo types have been ruined in California. My Elmer was a stereo type. I still have his stereo from 35 years ago and I like to listen to FM music on it, and I play our old swing records too. So our stereo hasn't been ruined yet. I hope it lasts a while longer. I won't live forever so maybe it will make it to my end.

Glo
