I will also check out all of the satellite towns surrounding SLO while I'm out there. Will add Los Osos, thanks!

Now that the location makes sense, is there any reason to choose August over September? I am looking at the events calendar and I notice that September is wine month. Is that more attractive than summer concerts or other events in August?

If you had a chance to spend one month or the other (or I supposed I could stagger across the bottom of August into September), which would you prefer? Thanks, in advance.

I would recommend September. The central coast is a great place to live. Cost of living will probably be a bit higher than your current location, but WAY below the better areas of the Silicon Valley or the nicer parts of the San Diego area.

HOWEVER: As a native Californian, I hate to admit it, but I don't see a good long term future for the state, and as soon as I sell my business, in about two years, I'm out of here for Austin TX or Boise ID. If I were to stay in CA, the SLO, or the Irvine, area would be my first picks.
