I hate to repeat a current "mantra" but realistically, enforcing laws currently on the books in all states and federally would go a long way. Beyond that, background checks, especially at gun shows, would help. They'll never be able to close all the gates, however. That's just an unfortunate reality. There will always be the cheaters, the straw purchasers and the criminals/thieves.

I wish I had the answers. If nothing else, they would make me rich.

For purposes of full disclosure, I've been shooting since I was eight or nine, spent eight years in the military, to include some combat experience, and then became a cop for another eight years. I've always owned guns and always will. I have a permit to carry. However, I don't think I'm rabid about any of it, just responsible.

However, there's nothing to prevent the citizens of CA from putting a gun rights amendment in the state constitution.
Many policeman didnt like the AWR when it first came out.. and we chose to ignore it for joe citizen... because we saw it as an overreach of government

Good luck with that today.. the government will turn many good citizens into felons

THOW THE POLITARDS OUT

I want armed regular citizens.. they kill criminals without the restrictions I have.. or at least with less hesitation

Where I lived in so cal there was a pawn shop that had been robbed many times and the owner killed a number of suspects.. we gave him a bulletproof vest as a reward signed by all of us

I agree. I am pro gun. We have laws but choose not to enforce them. They should try that first before they pass a bunch more.

Lets look at facts.

They want to control rifles, as they kill a lot of people so regulate what type rifle people can own. According to the FBI records, only about 350 to 450 people are killed by rifles each year.

But 750 to 875, are killed by feet, fists, and hands. Are they going to demand next that people have to have their hands and feet be tied behind their back so they can't be used to kill twice as many people as rifles? Feet, fists, and hands are about twice as deadly as rifles.

And 540 to 650 people are killed by clubs and hammers which is more than killed by rifles. Are they going to outlaw hammers next, so they cannot be even purchased as they are not protected by the constitution.

The most murders are by handguns, and most of those are done by gang members and/or people that know one another according to the FBI, and random killings are very rare and that includes with rifles according to the FBI. If you think that gang members are going to worry about gun laws and what they can carry to use to kill other people you are dreaming.

In fact 2 of the top 10 most dangerous cities by murders in the U.S. are in California.

Most Dangerous Cities in America - Murder Rates - Yahoo! Voices - voices.yahoo.com

What is the amount of gang violence and murder in these two cities?

It appears that the government could lower the murder rate in California if they spent the time and effort figuring out how to stop the gang violence in California, instead of trying to disarm the general population of California that is not doing the murders. Just a thought.

This is absolutely ridiculous. I know 4 dudes that are plenty deadly without guns, just carrying around katanas, sais, nunchucks, and bo staffs.
