I am not even sure what sub forum to post this in. If someone was going to work in Menlo Park, what towns would be best for a family to live (purchase a home) and still be commutable via car? OR are there places a little further out that are nicer that have public transportation to Menlo Park?

Just visited the area and really liked it, but don't know enough about places to live. Seems like any decent house is under contract, but I am not even sure if the areas are places for families to live.

You'd be best served in the San Francisco or San Jose forums, Menlo falls midway between those two.

The big question is.... what's your budget?
And what are your space/property/school expectations?

Are you aware of the COL for neighborhoods with good commutes, good schools and homes that are something better than a shack?

Hope you will be making lots of $$$$ or have it already.

Yes, I am fully aware. We are not jumping into anything...just starting to check into things. I've already learned tons by just reading other posts. Since I didn't disclose my situation, you made some assumptions. I homeschool my kids so schools are not of the utmost importance. In searching for homeschooling groups, there seems to be a plethora of choices in the area as well as several communities that are part of a middle school program one of my children already attends (it's a national thing). I also did not disclose any financial concerns, however, I know the COL is sky high. Sometimes it's a trade off. For example, the COL where I live now is way low....and so is the variety of culture and diversity, to only name a few of the shortcomings. I live in bumsquat now, and I don't like it. California is one of a few choices we have.
