If you get on the ground level and look straight on, you can see hills. And little toddlers that look like giants.

Santa Maria: Close to the beach, beautiful, good wineries.
Visalia: Ugly, Stinks the whole year, polution everywhere.

If you wanna take pics like those, is impossible in visalia, maybe you can, one or two days in a year!!

Google Los Verdes Ranch Park, Fiqueroa Mt., Oso Flaco Lake, Colson Canyon, and Red Rock.

Schools and crime levels may be better in Visalia, but the schools in Santa Maria are working on increasing performance as it's slowly increasing as the city is putting more money into Pioneer Valley and crime in SM are still lower than other San Joaquin Valley cities.

Not to mention SM has a TJ's, and there is going to get a make over over the next 2 years with a Burlington Coat Factory and 10 screen Regal Cinemas.

And like I said, Allan Hancock College is one of the 100 best colleges selected by the Aspen Association.

I'm sorry but IMHO Santa Maria is a lot uglier than Visalia. Visalia actually has a downtown while SM is just strip malls. Visalia is close to real mountains SM has dry foothills. Visalia is a hub for Tulare and Kings county, SM what?.....nipomo and Lompoc.

Santa Maria has beautiful hills and is closer to the beach.

Santa Maria is a suburban city. Our downtown is flat compared to skyscrapers in Visalia's downtown. Downtown Santa Maria is mostly hotels, apartments, city hall, police station, fire station, the mall, Santa Maria High, and a couple other shops near the mall.

Santa Maria is a hub for Lompoc, Guadalupe, Nipomo, Santa Ynez, Solvang, Buellton, and Orcutt.

Santa Maria is home to the Santa Maria Symphony and Pacific Conservatory of the Performing Arts which is one the biggest acting programs around.

Several tech companies such as Zynga, Den-Mat, and VTC Enterprises.

The city will have two large hospitals as of March.

The city has two large farming companies.

Santa Maria also Chapman, a satellite campus of Antioch University, and is 30 minutes from Cal Poly SLO and 50 minutes from UC Santa Barbara.

Visalia is near Fresno State and CSU Bakersfield which aren't as large or not nearly well respected as the two colleges near Santa Maria.

IMHO, you save money by living in the San Joaquin Valley, but you lose weather and the beauty the coast offers.

Santa Maria might not be the safest place on the Coast or the richest, but it still a Trader Joes, nearby beach and mts, and nice suburban areas.

It's mall and performance at Pioneer Valley School are the only aspects that need changing.

The eastern rural edge of Santa Maria has hills, Los Verdes Park, and other cool places to hike.
