Moreno Valley- Coronado
Hey all,
I'm Shante and I'll be moving to Moreno Valley with my dad in December/January. I've read some of the threads here about Moreno Valley and that it wasn't as nice as it used to be. I also read that some areas were full of crime and gangs. My dad lives in a neighborhood called Coronado. How is that area? I'm really excited about the move and I just want to know what to expect. Is it one of the nicer, quieter areas or is it in a bad area? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Hmm...
I think I may have misunderstood my dad. Coronado is where he works but he lives in Moreno Valley. I know there is a La Hoya (not sure if I spelled it right) Elementary school around the corner from his house. If anyone is familiar with that area could you tell me about it? Thanks.

Coronado is a city in San Diego. La Jolla is a neighborhood of San Diego, twenty minutes north of Coronado. Moreno Valley is TWO HOURS north-east of San Diego. That's sad for your dad to be commuting such horrible distances. Coronado and La Jolla are the best cities in California. Moreno Valley is a dump, a Compton compared to these two.

Are you sure he doesn't work in Corona? That would be a much more likely commute from Moreno Valley. BTW, there is a La Jolla Elementary in Moreno Valley, so you're not mistaken about that.

No, I'm positive he works in Coronado. He's in the navy and he commutes but I don't think it's every day. Sometimes he even stays on the base if he has to work a couple days in a row. Do you know the area around La Jolla Elementary School? I just wanted to know what to expect from that area because that's where he lives with my step-mom and siblings. I'm moving there to finish my degree.

I relaized after I sent the first post that Coronado was in SD County and not in Moreno Valley (That's what I said in the second post). And La Jolla is an elementary school in Moreno Valley. I am sure of that because my brother is enrolled there. And in reply to your other comments, I live in Baltimore City so Compton can't be any worse than what I'm already used to. I get to go to school for free in Cali and escape harsh winters here in MD. So I'll take the "dump" Moreno Valley any day over Baltimore, MD.

I'm not familiar with Moreno Valley. I haven't lived in California for years, and even then Moreno Valley already had a bad reputaion. I don't know if it deserves to be called a "compton" but when you're comparing it to Coronado, well a lot of low income neighborhoods are going to look more like Compton then they deserve. So don't put a whole lot of stock in that particular comparison.
Since your coming from Baltimore you may be used to living in bad area's but Baltimore is a big city and offers big city benefits to off set the crime. Moreno Valley isn't going to do that for you. You're not going to have a decent mass transit system, there's no comparable nightlife-- there's no Inner Harbor.
I hope someone can give you more detailed info on that exact area. Good luck with moving. I'm hoping to leave Maryland for San Diego in the next few months myself.

The best place in Moreno Valley is the newer Southeast area, south of the 60 freeway off of Nason and Redlands exits. A close second might be the Northwest area off of Box Springs and Pigeon Pass. You can find decent, quiet neighborhoods but Moreno Valley would not be my first choice of where to live. Have you considered Menifee or Temecula? The air is much less smoggy and they are nicer areas. They are a little more expensive but probably not too much, especially Menifee. Plus they are closer to SD county.
