If the OP were to put up a poll, I bet Yosemite would be the runaway favorite, possibly with Big Sur coming in 2nd.

I'd recommend staying in San Francisco with maybe an overnight or day trip to the Sonoma/Napa County wineries.

I nearly moved to Sonoma last year. Big Sur is on my list, too.

I'm not gonna die of boredom on my Honeymoon......

We also explored some beaches, had dinner in Morro Bay, went swimming, took a lot of pics, etc etc...

You didn't say when you would be taking this trip which is important?

For example I wouldn't recommend Yosemite in the Summer as it is super toursity crowded. Think bus loads of tourists from all over the world jammed into the Valley. It's a mess. That is the only time of year we don't go even with an annual pass.

I highly recommend Big Sur which is one of the top scenic wonders of the state and a very romantic destination. You can even fly into Monterey or San Jose. If you fly into San Jose you can do a side trip to San Francisco as well.

If you want a quiet, isolated time to discover your new mate but not be totally away from it all, consider Catalina Island.

It will be summer. Those pics are gorgeous! I've always wanted to see Monterrey, too. Maybe (if he agrees), we can do a Monterrey, Big Sur, and Wine Country trip.

Thanks for all the ideas!

When I think of a romantic getaway in CA, I also think of Monterey.

Another really fun thing to do is a cruise on SF Bay. It's amazing to see the city from the water, and they take you by Alcatraz and under the Golden Gate bridge.

Also agree that the wine country is romantic. There's a wine train that's fun. If you tour the wine country, I suggest a tour, so you don't have to worry about drinking and driving.

I like the Catalina Island idea, since you'd go to LA already to see his family.
