Move to Texas. The American Dream is still alive there. California keeps doubling down with stupid govt.

And damned if I give a **** one way or the other ... I got mine ... and none of it came from working for anybody else ... and, btw, not one cent of it came as a result of my college degrees (plural) either.

I agree with the first sentence ... I think everybody should move to Texas and whine there.

Quick story for y'all: I know a nice lady now into her middle years. Started working at age 14, full-time at 15, quit high school at 16, a junior. She did later get a GED. Anyway, she was flipping burgers and waiting tables and then working as a cleaner on a fish processing boat in Alaska, then supervising a fish-cleaning crew of S.E. Asians in Seattle for a while. Landed herself a file-clerk job at a major HMO for minimum wage in her early 20's. She's been with that company for 20+ years. She is now base salaried at $60K and earns annual performance based bonuses of $15K - $30K a year, even through the recession. So averages in the $80K+ per year ... no college ... no specialized training of any kind whatsoever. Oh yeah, when she was just out of high school her mother died and she helped her father raise her three younger brothers. What she brought to her career -- and life -- was a cheerful attitude with smiles and a complete willingness to roll up her sleeves everyday, no matter what was happening at home, and just "get 'er dun" whatever the work required.

$80k+ a year ... no college, no MBA, just a GED and a smile.

Love my daughter to pieces.
Sort of what I was saying in my original post. You have to pay your dues I agree with that. I just take exception to the dismissive attitude of some in this thread, probably because I remember it all to well myself. Like I said, I started out picking up trash and even cleaning restrooms before I had a chance to prove myself in better positions which included even working with penguins (hence my screen name I've used for years). I agree that one has to be willing to roll up their sleeves and get their hands dirty regardless of education level. I'm a slacker and I still did pretty well because I didn't think I was too good to start from the bottom.

Why do you care? You're not a Baby Boomer, you're a founder

Never trifle with the wisdom of a 10,000-year-old-Taoist anthropologist, young man ... sage advice is worth its weight in Boomer gold ...

Yep, the American dream IS alive, as in being allowed to store hundreds of thousands of pounds of high explosives next door to a public school, a nursing home, a 50-unit apartment building, and single family residences.

Let freedom ring! God bless Texas! To hell with socialistic state regulations!
