Do most Real Estate Development firms require that I have (or be able toget) a real estate license in order to work as an employee (work on contracts, etc.)?

I only ask because I have an expunged misdemeanor on my record, whichemployers can't use against me, BUT state licensing agencies can.
I want to get into real estate development, not the sale of real estate.
Please only answer if you have specific knowledge of, or experience in, the realmof real estate development.
Thanks!,

If you are actually writing contracts you certainly do. I am not sure what you mean by getting into the development but not selling. I have to question you on that one.

No. You do not need a license to be employed with a developer. Although they do like to hire those with an undergraduate degree in real estate, you could get your foot in the door through an internship. (Toll Brothers does this on occasion). Or, if you have a boatload of money, you could start your own development company. Real estate development is far different than working as a realtor.

Google "Build a career in real estate development" You'll find a plethora of good information.

You likely don't need to have a real estate license to work as a direct employee of a real estate development firm.

You also can obtain a real estate license with your circumstances, but you will have to fully explain the situation on your application. It's not automatic that you will be turned down.
