Default Sacramento Valley

We are looking to relocate from Iowa. I want somewhere with warmer winters! I'm looking for a smaller town that it within an hour of a larger city. I lived in Sacramento for awhile in the 80's and loved it except the cost.

I've been doing a little research on the areas between Redding and Sacramento and they seem to be much more affordable with a low crime rate. They seem to have the best of both worlds with mountains and ocean close by.

However, I'd like to hear from folks who live there or know. I'm thinking of somewhere south of Paradise and north of Sacramento. Does anyone have input about these areas?

Sacramento's rent is not too inflated. I personally think Sacramento's winter is pretty cold since you can sometimes see ice on the grass and your windshield.

I am only familiar with a few places north of Sacramento. But Citrus Heights, Carmichael and Fair Oaks is pretty close to Sacramento and cost of rent is reasonable. Roseville area is a bit nicer and upscale but rent is expensive in that area.

Sac is a really nice place. I grew up in the Bay Area and always liked Sac's slower pace. you'll probably be surprised at the growth, especially on the east end of the city with places like Folsom, Roseville, and Cameron Park really starting to come into their own. Really, anywhere in Sac is going to be cheap by CA standards.
