Hi guys,

I need some help/advice! My husband, three kids and I currently live in San Jose however we are considering moving to Los Banos to be able to purchase a large home and still commute to work. I work in San Martin and my husband works in Milpitas. Does anyone live in Los Banos and commute down to San Jose? I am wondering if it would be worth it? We dont want to purchase a home here in San Jose since all we could afford would be a 3 bedroom in a not so nice area. Please help!

I knew a colleague that did this commute for a while, from Los Banos to N. San Jose. It's not worth it. It burned him out pretty bad.

I used to fish at San Luis Forebay & the canals. I always heard folks bought less expensive homes & commuted from Los Banos. Seems like a long distance. There have been some new/er homes built in Santa Nella area too.

I have some relatives that live by Gilroy. I would suggest checking the home prices there, & by Hollister, maybe also around San Juan Bautista...

Best of Luck to you.

Gilroy has gotten pretty pricey, I would check Hollister.

Iv'e checked gilroy and hollister but los banos is still cheaper. New homes are being built in Santa Nella and Los Banos those are the ones were looking into....I'm really thinking those new 6 bedroom homes might be worth the commute. If we purchase something in San Jose it would be in a not good are and a 3bedroom home..but close to work.

Ps. I Love Jardines in San Juan Bautista.

... ...Sometimes we enjoyed sharing a pitcher of Strawberry Margaritas, Guacamole, Nachos......yum.........

It was HOT & windy, but we had some great times camping in our 1978 American Clipper C motorhome & catching some nice catfish & Striped Bass on the San Luis Forebay, Delta/Mendota canal, CA Aqueduct.

If y'all can deal with the daily drive, then I think it's doable. Many folks commuted years ago to San Jose. Some commute from Monterey area.

An ex-girlfriend did that commute for a year (before we met) and she said it was an absolute soul-crusher. She never enjoyed her place in Los Banos because the drive sucked all the energy out of her...

That commute would do most people in.

I thought about you this morning. I drove from Santa Clara, close to the SJ airport this morning starting at 6:05 a.m, heading to outside of Fresno.

It took me 1 hour and 20 minutes to get to Los Banos. Got there at 7:25 am. And basically there was no traffic going my way.

But, on the other side of the freeway, once I got to Gilroy, at about 6:30 a.m., traffic was already thickening on 101 heading towards San Jose.

On the way back, by 3pm, traffic was incredibly slow on the way from SJ towards Gilroy.

I really can't imagine doing that commute every day.

It would actually be a better ride to Fresno, as the highway would at least be a multi-lane fast freeway all the way there and back. If you could get a job in Fresno, I think the commute would actually be better, even though when you google map it. it's farther. There's multi-lane freeway from Los Banos to 99, but the other way, it's only 2 lane a lot of the way.
