This is a little premature. Receive your acceptance letters first.

San Diego has WAY better weather ( average temperature of 70F) and beaches you can actually swim in. Oakland has a lot of bad areas, whereas San Diego is one of the safest cities in the USA. San Diego, no brainer.

Want the California scene from the movies and TV, San Diego for sure.
But if it's about the weed, Arcata.

Oakland's mediterranean climate averages 67F, and is called the Sunny Side of the Bay. While we don't have those beautiful Southern California beaches, we do have 19 miles of coastline along our estuary and two natural lakes (saltwater and freshwater) that our great for many water sports. Also, we have redwood forests. While Oakland has some bad areas, it also has a lot of good areas, like any other big city including San Diego. It's not like the OP plans on venturing into bad areas anyway.

The OP should state which colleges are on the list. UC Berkeley, Cal State East Bay, San Diego State, UC San Diego, privates, communities?
