Can someone tell me the best route to take from Las Vegas to Palm Springs? Last time we drove on interstate 15 and there was thick traffic! We don't want to spend a lot more time, but would like to try an alternative route?

Have you tried Google maps? There are a few other ways but they suck.

Go at off hours. That's the only way to beat it.

No other route, go midday or late at night. Try a weekday, it will be better.

You can actually cut through the Mojave Preserve and take about 40 miles off the trip, but understand it is on roads and undivided highways - making the trip significantly more challenging to drive.

Drive to Ontario Airport and take Southwest to McCarran, it's about a 40 minute flight.

How far out of the way and extra driving distance are you willing to do? Wish to avoid I-15 altogether? If so, go east from LV through Henderson to 95, just west of Boulder City. South on 95 to I-40 then west to Kelebaker Road, south to old 66, west about 5 miles to Amboy Road, then south to 29 Palms.

Do you not have a map?
I-15 is the only route if you want to be on major roads the whole way.

There is one possible alternate:
Get on I-10 and head west to CA Hwy 62 (west)
Follow CA-62 E/29 Palms Hwy to Godwin Rd in San Bernardino
Get on I-15 N via Amboy Rd, Kelbaker Rd, Kelso Cima Rd and Morning Star Mine Rd (through Mojave Preserve)
Follow I-15 N to Las vegas

Google estimates that the distance is about 40 miles less and the driving time at just 6 minutes longer, but I would't trust that estimate at all because it's not taking into account the fact that you're on a really narrow road with lots of turns and you may often be stuck behind slow vehicles.

Or you could take I40 to hwy 95 and add on a bunch of distance but not have to worry about I-15 traffic or narrow desert roads. It may be about 250° out there though!

My advice: Take 15. That's what it's for.
