Plus the "official" cost is $54 million as of today for suppression.

DMensha,

The $47,000,000 price tag I got from the article. Apparently the paper got their numbers wrong. If your figures are currently correct, then the estimated cost to extinguish the fire, based on current acreage burned, will grow from $134,287,332.32 to $154,287,573.30.

BTW, I do understand what the $115.00 fire tax is suppose to be for. You, of all people, know that people who live in rural areas know what must be done to provide a defensible space and how to prepare for an evacuation.

Do people need to pay the State $115.00 for them to tell us this. You bet I'm angry about it. What would you suggest, a person to be appathetic and don't question? Have you ever thought that maybe that's why the State gets away with these rediculous taxes. DMensha, have you ever stopped to think and use a little common sense or does your nick suit you?

Also, the fire tax is a yearly bill. How many times does a person need to be told to clean their property?

DMensha,

Are you a retired Cal Fire employee? If so, then you know all about the retirement system. If currently employed, then I'm sure you know about the retirement system.

Do you care to comment regarding the links that were posted pertaining to Cal Fire retirement? BTW, it was mentioned that most CDF/Cal Fire employees retire at captain or above. Is that true? You wouldn't happen to fall into that category would you?

Yup.

Interesting how it's unjust that the people who chose to live in fire-prone areas have no responsibility for paying the monetary cost, let alone the human cost, of fighting these fires.

Malloric,

Do you think the State should impose an earthquake tax on those living is designated seismic areas? Wouldn't that be interesting, a fault line tax. Malloric, please think about what you previously posted.

DMensha,

I hope you are right about the Forest Service having the money to pay for erosion control. Please read through the following links.

Malloric,

How many billions of dollars have been spent on seismic retrofitting structures and government buildings to be earthquake safe? How many government buildings were torn down then rebuilt to meet earthquake standards? Please think!

How many billions of dollars have been spent to remove the damage caused by the most recent quakes in Northern and Southern California? What was the cost asociated with rebuilding the infrastructure?

Please Think!!

eccotecc,

The State does not pay for retrofitting structures, including government buildings unless they happen to be State buildings. Is your house a State building? Please think!
