+1 on that... lived on Camano Island, Baring, Bainbridge Island, Seattle, Olympia WA and Portland OR... the number of folks who answer the OP's original description easily match or exceed anywhere I've lived in my adult life. The old saying in Seattle, 'If you move here, bring your friends- for the first two years you'll need 'em!' is true.

Without generalizing too much I will say that far too many folks in the Seattle/Portland corridor have a certain well-honed surliness that seems more appropriate for High-School detention that as the philosophical cornerstone of an artsy/professional/boho PNW coast lifestyle... I once saw a bumper-sticker on Rte. 5 in Seattle which read: Don't drive too close or I'll eat you' with a fanged Happy Face as a period. My *ironic* favorite from the PNW remains, however: 'Kill people, not trees' ... does it get any surlier than that?

In Seattle, some of the natives often referred to other city residents and those from nearby areas variously as 'yuppies', 'hicks', 'Archies', 'Camaro-driving headbangers', etc.... Hell, Capitol Hill and Queen Anne Hill have a snarky rivalry remarkable in its immaturity and strong 'us-against-them' mentality among many denizens of both city districts... Olympia residents have an (unearned) reputation as hicks, loggers, military brats and ganja-crippled hippy slackers from TESC (The Evergreen State College in Oly), otherwise know as 'The Ever-Growing State Crisis'... the infighting is vicious amongst many in the Seattle area, and don't get me started on the Seattle vs. Portland thing.

It all washes out about equally with other parts of the country, though, as many residents from the Seattle and Portland areas have 'cross-pollinated'. There are reports of 'mixed marriages' between residents of those two cities and even... *gasp* WA/OR residents and Californians.

Unfortunately, as you are in Oroville, you are right.

House prices in Oroville are about 60% what they are in Chico for a comparable property. I can drive the 22 miles for that much less.

They're probably married...to Mexicans.

For several ears we drove from Sacramento to Paradise to visit family and never knew Palermo existed. Is it because we blinked?
